Our Story
West Michigan Cancer Awareness began as a vision of the late Vernell Allen, a devoted member of Christ Temple’s Majestic Voices of Praise (MVP) Praise Team.
After being diagnosed with terminal cancer, Vernell became determined to leave a lasting legacy centered around cancer awareness. His vision was to create a powerful community event that would unite praise teams, choirs, healthcare professionals, cancer survivors, caregivers, and community members through worship, education, and community support.
With support from Harbor Hospice and collaboration from MVP members, the first West Michigan Cancer Awareness Gospel Musical was established in 2010.
Although Vernell passed away during the planning stages of the second year, he challenged the committee to continue the mission annually. Today, that vision lives on through the West Michigan Cancer Awareness Musical, impacting countless lives through awareness, education, support, and hope.

The West Michigan Cancer Awareness Musical exists to: Inspire hope and encouragement for individuals and families affected by cancer. Increase cancer awareness and education about prevention, treatment, and support services. Connect community members facing similar challenges and promote community support. Provide access to free resources available to cancer patients and caregivers. Celebrate survivors and honor those we have lost. Unite the community through faith, music, and compassion.
